To Michael Perekrestov

Passing Glance

I watch the masses passing fro
With shy eagerness I look for you
Though that you were so distant I knew
Yet I still glance about and lo
Within a stranger's eyes I know
Light on their hair and through
Their glance I nearly see you too
And yet it is not you, oh no

That pang as they revealing turn
And I see they are another
Momentary hope is extinguished
I seem to see you often and not learn
This habit has become quite a bother
My love for you cannot be relinquished

Note: This is an Italian sonnets in both form and content. Mr. Perekrestov represents Beatrice in the Dantean thought and is merely there as a representation of philosophical interest.
