To Michael Perekrestov

In Passing

I could not greet you in passing
Having spent so long in the dark
I was not able to abide sudden brightness
The beams of brilliance massing
And glories about you dancing
Augmenting your already noble prowess
Upon me fell such a soothing stillness
I thought less of speech and more of fasting

If such a creature of beauty was here
How much more lovely was his creator
My love as a gentle flowing stream
Came to its true destination, my dear
Which was not you, but your maker
It is He that causes you to so gleam

The Lawn

The thought you may have stood here
Beautifying the grass and earth
The leaves rustling with joyous mirth
And shadows dancing as you were near
Only the sunlight could drop a tear
Your glory caused the orb to have no worth
Bringing the world into a new birth
Causing loveliness to shine so clear

Yet now it stands empty and cold
Fair birds throw up their laments
All waits in hovering stillness for you
And shall until the world grows old
Each blade of grass imobile and tense
Oh come, my love, and waken them anew

Note: These are Italian sonnets in both form and content. Mr. Perekrestov represents Beatrice in the Dantean thought and is merely there as a representation of philosophical interest.
