What Is History?
I've only barely started this book, as it is difficult to keep the subject narrow and not wander off on tangents. Basically it
covers the biases of history with a running example of the Boston Massacre to show how even primary sources are unreliable. I cover
what we can really know about history and what we should not even pretend to know.
A general history and critique of the novel form and its possibilities in the future. I mainly concentrate on English novels up to
about 1940, but cover Spanish, French and Russian as well. I'm writing out of order but I have about ten chapters completed so far.
I haven't really started formally on this book other than making a few notes and meaning to start on it, but it is definitely
important to me. I'd need to make a run to Boston for research and possibly the UK so it will be a while before it is seriously begun.
This is a novellization I've begun working on to an audio series that I wrote. A secret valley was created centuries ago as a haven for artists. The founders believed there would come a time when war and disinterest would cause the arts to be lost, and thus it draws in young talent from around the globe. The newcomers are put through a series of tests, at the end they are either returned to the outside world with no knowledge of what took place, or they become a permanent resident for the remainder of their lifetime. The setting is a semi-magical valley of Mayan ruins, and characters include artists, poets and musicians, all at the invisible and mysterious Agapito's command.
